It and its sequels are adventurous and compelling-and rich in spiritual truth. They both must trust their all-powerful God in the midst of difficult situations. I would feel cheated if I was a preteen and never got a chance to read this book. There is some violence when the Irish captives are taken, but it's not graphic. Bree's parents are excellent role models, and the choices Bree has to make are based on Scriptural ideals of right and wrong. Spiritual principles are very much in evidence. The "enemy" are either sinful, confused, or ignorant of God's truth. There's no blurring of ethical lines here. When Briana O'Toole is captured by a young Viking chieftain, she has to reevaluate her faith and learn to trust God during circumstances she'd never dreamed of.
